Guaranteed to Get a Set

We advertise that with Powerstorm ™ you are guaranteed to get a set when you buy a sealed box of draft packs and two starters. What does that mean in practical terms? Players love building their own deck of cards to play with, but hate spending hundreds of dollars on every set of every new game that comes out. The solution is to offer a customizable game that is packaged so that players don't have to chase down rare cards.

To that end, we have non-random starter decks. We also have Draft Packs. Draft Packs may seem like booster packs, but there is a big difference -- if you buy draft packs by the display box and then buy one of each starter deck then you get a tournament-viable playset of cards.

Click here for typical collation quantities. Our collation for one sealed draft box plus one of each starter deck should give a player enough cards to have up to two tournament viable decks stacked at a time, with a fair bit of versatility as to the type of deck played.

We've tried to make sure that every box of Draft Packs has the same contents as every other Draft Pack box of the same type (making them non-random at the box level). Draft play is important to the profitability of a customizable card game, because it encourages players to continue buying packs of product even after they have a complete set of cards. However, fans of constructed play will be able to get a set easily.

Serious players will probably still buy multiple boxes of draft cards and multiple copies of each starter deck in order to have the card pool necessary to stack several decks simultaneously. They will do so for the luxury of having greater flexibility for deck stacking, not because they need to do so to be competitive in tournaments. Less hardcore players will be able to dabble with the game, by buying into a draft box with a friend and splitting it; it is fairly easy to divide a draft box between teams of heroes and teams of villains, for example.

We believe that for most collectible card games only a small percentage of consumers buy multiple POP displays of each set. We have talked to a number of retailers and consumers who said that fans would play a game if they felt their wallets were not being bled dry. We responded by coming up with our packaging strategy. We think that players who would not otherwise buy a new collectible card game may try a customizable card game.

Our "guaranteed to get a set" sales strategy will appeal to players but only if they are informed about it. So tell every card game player you know that Powerstorm is different, that it is a game that they can afford to try.
